Co-design of Climate Services for the Turkana County area, KENYA

On the 9th of April 2025, a hybrid workshop was held at the Institute of Climate Change and Adaptation, University of Nairobi, Kenya, to bring together national and international meteorological services, local and international universities, communicators and dissemination experts, to discuss the co-design of climate services for the Turkana County area.
The objectives of the workshop were to identify the stakeholders to be targeted by the project, to bring together conventional weather and climate information producers to deliberate and agree on the process and implementation of co-creation of local weather and climate information, and deliberate and agree on the appropriate communication and dissemination approaches to use in support of local adaptation interventions.
Six technical institutions participated in the workshop: three local institutions (IGAD Climate Prediction and Application Centre, Kenya Meteorological Department, and the University of Nairobi); and three international institutions (Alma Mater Studiorum – Università di Bologna, Agency for Meteorology and Climatology “ItaliaMeteo” (ITMET), and the Finnish Meteorological Institute).
