ALBATROSS and Goodwall join forces looking for #WeatherWatchers in Ghana and Kenya
With the aim of gathering indigenous and local knowledge regarding weather forecast and knowledge, ALBATROSS has launched a campaign through the Goodwall initiative to promote the participation of young people in Ghana and Kenya. The 20 best stories will receive 50 USD as a reward, 10 in each country.
Starting on 10 November 2025, the Goodwall app will be collecting inputs from users in Ghana and Kenya for three weeks, who will be sharing their local weather knowledge and climate adaptation measures. This app, with more than 2 million members across 150 countries and with its fastest-growing region being Africa, encourages participants to engage in skills-based challenges. On this occasion, the aim is to collect local stories about how communities interpret natural signs to predict weather and prepare for the seasons and take action, from early planting to storing food or protecting animals. These traditional practices also help people adapt to a changing climate.
This initiative follows the ALBATROSS objective of learning about local and indigenous knowledge. The project already has a Climate Campaign ongoing on the Citizen Science Toolkit in this regard, through which they are collecting inputs from citizens in Kenya and Ghana. To ensure all pieces of knowledge received are consistent, participants who engage in the Goodwall challenge will also be requested to complete the survey in the climate campaign.
When it comes to participating in the Goodwall challenge, participants will record their story in a short video and upload it on Goodwall using one of the following hashtags, depending on the country they are from: #WeatherWatchersGH or #WeatherWatchersKE. In this video, they will have to talk about the natural signs their community uses to predict the weather or seasons, or the actions communities take to adapt to weather changes, including stories of a time this knowledge helped guide an important decision or action.
Goodwall will reward the 10 best-performing contributors in each country, each of which will receive 50 USD, and the top storyteller will earn a mentorship session. The selection will follow criteria such as the relevance and authenticity of stories, along with the storytelling skills of participants.
