On 10 April 2025, a participatory online workshop will be held to bring together project partners to engage and co-develop and refine existing climate service (CS) tools with the South African Weather Service (SAWS) and ALBATROSS members.
The primary goal of the workshop is to explore a user-centered, impact-based forecasting system that integrates socio-economic and geophysical data to support climate adaptation in the UZ Hub with project partners.
The workshop will facilitate technical discussions between the ALBATROSS and SAWS teams, focusing on:
1. Co-development of impact-based seasonal predictions for the agriculture sector
2. Integration and application of Copernicus data for adaptation planning with Nature-based Solutions (NBS)
3. Building on and the development of existing CS tools for early warning systems
The workshop participants will focus on the in-depth technical discussions on the development of impact-based forecasting systems and the enhancement of early warning systems for floods, droughts and fires. We will also aim to establish a working strategy between ALBATROSS and SAWS.
