ALBATROSS meets the Asante community and visits a flood-prone area in Kumasi
On 18 July 2026, the ALBATROSS consortium flew to visit the Kumasi hub, specifically the Asante community in the XX suburb. Hosted by KNUST partners, the group was welcomed by the chef of the community, xxxx, and after presentations by community experts and representatives of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), a focus group discussion was held, with the participants split into three groups to discuss how the community experiences floods and how they prepare and respond to them.
The group then walked around the neighbourhood, seeing the vulnerability to floods and the challenge they face regarding waste ending up in the stream, aggravating the flood problem. Some local community members shared their experiences on the ground, which was a unique opportunity to first-hand learning.
